Paul Ferens, Can we skip to the good part?, 2021

Paul Ferens is a Berlin based artist whose practice deploys in the Middle Kingdom in between sculpture and painting with a particular interest in the spatiality of a work and its narrative. His altered realities or new realities are at times activated by the fictitious realm of video games with the intent of conveying the inherent and widespread effect of artificiality on the contemporary landscape. Symbols, omens, amulets and visual passwords acquire a physical presence leaking out a world that is virtual, yet more than anything else, real. Ferens encompasses creation as an exercise of imagination, simulation and replication of already existing architectural plots, in which we do feel ourselves in between a foreigner and a habitué, craving to open an enigmatic door or stepping into a castle’s room. Paul Ferens is the co- founder of the Berlin based gallery Number 1 Main Road.

PS could stand for ‘party synthetic’, ‘personal statement’, ‘please silence’, ‘psss’, ‘post scriptum’ or whatever just came to your mind. We choose post scriptum out of infinite descriptive possibilities as it possibly embodies them all. P.s: an interview or a rebus? a composition of portraits and wiretaps? a map of hints suggesting a wide web of interpretations.
